The last manned spacecraft to fly to the Moon was Apollo 17 in 1972. In April of this year, Artemis II finally marked the return of a crewed lunar mission. Three male astronauts and one female astronaut orbited the Moon, collected data, and used it to prepare for the next mission, which is intended to return humans to the surface. After ten days, the crew returned safely to Earth.
But what else were the four of them actually doing during that time? Well, even highly specialized astronauts—who were selected from among thousands of applicants—cannot completely escape the demands of their physical needs; at some point, even they have to go to the bathroom.
And this is where LANXESS comes in. This is because in a sense, a small piece of the company flew to the moon as well. Not quite as spectacular as a rocket launch — but without functioning sanitary facilities, even the most advanced lunar mission would quickly have to come back down to Earth.
